Our utility hoists category includes lifting hoists that are generally used for specific applications. Many of these hoists are used by the utility companies such as electricity, oil and gas, rail networks and more. You will also find a number of hoists for use in arctic conditions, some extra corrosion resistant set ups and an adaptor hoist with multiple anchorage options.
As mentions above there are multiple areas of use for these special utility hoists, some are designed for very specific purposes and some can also be used for general lifting tasks. Here we look into each type a little more, however the product pages for each particular hoist will give you all the information and specifications you need.
Most standard hoists can be used at temperatures down to -10C, some can cope with -20C but these will be of little use for lifting operations in countries in the far northern hemisphere. Our range of arctic hoists include a manual chain block and a ratchet lever hoist that can withstand temperatures down to an extreme -40C, this should cover all but the most extreme sub-zero lifting operations.
We have a few ratchet lever hoists that have appropriate certification for lifting tasks in the rail network. Our Tiger PROLH has a PADS approved certificate and the overhead line & rail ratchet hoist is also approved for use with the Ironman rail handling system.
Battery powered hoists are relatively new and sit somewhere inbetween manual hoists and electric hoists in terms of useability and power. We have just one option at the moment which is by the Yale brand. The 'Batterystar' hoist can handle loads up to 1000kg and is ideal for use when you don't have the option to plug in but need more power and speed than a manual hoist offers. This type of battery hoist will no doubt become widely used for general site work.
Our adaptor hoists come in lever hoist or chain block format and are different to standard varieties in that there are numerous options for suspension and loading. There is a range of clevis components to choose from which can be fully swivelled and pivoted to enable easier angled lifting without the need to de-rate the hoist.
Ideal for use in certain situations when the hoist could potentially corrode quickly, such as left to the elements, used in damp conditions or used where chemicals and other corrosive substances are used. These hoists have more resistant components such as stainless steel fittings and chain in addition to extra corrosion resistant coatings.
Whatever your hoisting requirements are you can look to Lifting Gear Direct to sort you out, whether its a standard chain block or a general electric hoist. We can also supply almost any other type of lifting equipment you are likely to need, whether slings and shackles or eye bolts and clamps, we've got them all.
