Modular Spreader Beams

Modular Spreader Beams

Spreader beams differ from lifting beams as they spread the loading stress evenly across the beam, thus improving positioning and stability. They are ideal for lifting in areas where headroom is not an issue and perfect for wider loads.

Our modular spreader beams have the added benefit of being able to re-configure the layout of the beam sections to suit different sized loads.

About Modular Spreader Beams

When you need to lift multiple wider loads that differ in size then a modular spreader beam could be your solution. You won't need a range of fixed spreader beams in different lengths.

The beams come in kit form with a number of different length sections. These sections can be bolted together securely in a number of configurations to perfectly match the size of your load. This enables the loading slings to remain at the optimum 90 degree angle and thus evenly distributes the forces applied across the beam by compression stress rather than a bending stress as on typical lifting beams.

The steel struts have different diameters according to the capacity, therefore there will also be more bolts on the larger models.

Designed with 3D and FEA analysis and manufactured to ISO9001 and DNV quality standards.

6t to 110 tonne capacities are readily available, however larger capacities can often be accommodated on request.

What your Modular Spreader Beam Kit Includes & Options

The capacity you need will determine which beam pieces you can choose. There are 12 strut lengths to choose from ranging from 0.1 metres up to 4 metres (see table in specifications tab to find out which struts are available for which capacity).

Your kit will include the strut sections you have chosen along with two end units, two drop links and the required number of bolts. Should you also require any lifting slings and/or shackles then we can supply those to.

Adaptability for different loading options can be obtained with different end fittings. The optional extras include step-down end units, hybrid cone adaptors, Clevis drop link with delta plate and a trunnion drop link for shackle free lifting. (see image)

Modular Spreader Beam Benefits

Thanks to the modular design, additional struts can be added (or removed) at any time, thus altering the length to suit your load. This removes the need to have multiple fixed spreader beams of different lengths. Additionally the system is easier to transport and store as it can be taken apart.

The way that these modular spreader beams are used ensures optimum stability with no tipping or bending. Furthermore there is no singular stress point thanks to the even weight and force distribution. The centre of gravity from the top anchor slings is paramount to stability.

The loading points ensure the slings are positioned at 90 degrees from the beam which not only ensures load stability but can also prevent load damage.

These modular spreader beams can be converted into a square lifting frame with additional corner struts, please get in touch if you require this option.

Key Do's and Don'ts with a Modular Spreader Beam

There are many safety precautions that go hand in hand with using these beams. Here are a few key ones.

Always:

Inspect for damage or loose bolts prior to use

Follow manufacturers instructions

Ensure the correct rigging is used and used correctly.

Never:

Exceed the maximum capacity

Exceed rigging angles. Lower slings should be no more than 6 degrees from vertical.

Ignore the loads alignment, ensure C of G is central.

Modify any component.

Other Lifting Frameworks

If you need a liftingbeam rather than a spreader beam then check out our multi-point lifting beam which can also be used as a semi-spreader. Other types of frameworks that are used for lifting applications include A-frame gantries and Jib cranes.
