When it comes to lifting applications in extremely low temperatures, standard lifting equipment will not suffice, they can only typically handle -10 degrees. (occasionally -20). Therefore specialised equipment must be used to ensure problems do not arise due to the cold such as fractured and brittle parts.
The Yale arctic ratchet lever hoist is based upon the tried and tested Yale UNOplus A-series lever hoist. However there have been a number of modifications with components changed for different materials which can handle up to -40C. Alongside the component and material changes the lubricants used within the hoist has also been switched to one that works correctly in extreme sub-zero temperatures.

This arctic edition lever hoist from Yale has undergone extremely thorough testing both statically and dynamically.
Fully tested at these extreme, low temperature ranges for malfunctions and material failure. Endurance testing was carried out to ensure the hoist remained safe and working correctly over an extended period. The complex testing also includes breakage and impact testing to ensure the materials do no become brittle due to the cold.
In conclusion the Yale arctic ratchet lever hoist passed all tests and certified for use in sub zero temperatures to -40C.
