Repairs & Testing

Lifting equipment, whatever type it is will no doubt need repairing at sometime during its working life; unless you are very lucky of course! So how do you go about getting your lifting gear repaired and what necessary paperwork do you need for your records?

Lifting Equipment Repairs

The type of repairs needed is hugely varied and very dependent on the type of equipment it is. For example a chain sling may only need a damaged link removing; a plate clamp will often need repairs to its jaws or an electric hoist may need replacement electrical components.

Whatever type of lifting equipment you have, if it can be transported to our workshop here in the heart of the West Midlands then the chances are we can repair it. We have a team of engineers who have many years of experience working with all types of lifting equipment; they will carry out the majority of repairs quickly and your repaired equipment will be on its way back to you before you know it, in full working order.

From time to time it is necessary to have to order in specialist parts for the repair, so this could take a little longer and is out of our hands. We have a thorough understanding of the inconvenience broken lifting equipment can cause. Some types of equipment can cause a domino effect if it breaks down, where multiple tasks cannot be completed because one piece of equipment is down. A quick turnaround is always our aim; receive – repair – return a.s.a.p.

Lifting Equipment Testing

When repairs have been carried out on any type of lifting equipment they must be re-tested to ensure they are safe to use and able to handle the stated safe working load limit.

Testing may be carried out in various ways, depending on the type of equipment nearly all will need load testing; for example a repaired chain sling will need load testing; a plate clamp will be load tested and have the jaws checked to ensure they safely grip the load.

To find out more about our specialist proof load testing, head over to the in-house load testing services page where you should find all the information you need.

There are other scenarios where lifting equipment may need testing; it may be a self-made lifting beam which needs to be tested in order to obtain certification as to the safe working load it can handle. It could also be a piece of equipment where the existing test certificate is out of date and new documentation is needed for your records to comply with health and safety.

It is always better to be safe than sorry, look after your lifting equipment correctly and the chances are, it will look after you, from a safety, efficiency and cost effective point of view.

Lifting Gear Direct can carry out most types of testing procedures on the majority of lifting equipment, contact our team to see if we can help, 01384 76961 is the number you need.
