Our BS large bow shackles with safety bolt comply with British standards B.S. 3032; they are manufactured high tensile steel with a self coloured finish. Hot dipped galvanised finishes are also available as well as BS large Dee shackles.
The main difference in these shackles, when compared to other shackles with a safety bolt, is the cotter pin position; this is normally located in through a hole in the end of the bolt, however with our British Standard shackles the cotter pin is located through the nut which secures the bolt to the shank of the shackle; because it goes right through the nut it also goes through the bolt, locking them together with no room for movement until the cotter pin is removed.
The configuration of this BS large bow shackle with safety bolt virtually removes the likelihood of the bolt coming loose and falling out and therefore may be used successfully on applications with bolt/pin friction and also where vibrations are present in the operation.
These quality bow shackles have a good safety facto r of 5:1: MBL = 5 x WLL (minimum breaking load = 5 times the working load limit).
