Main Advantages of Stainless Steel Shackles

Stainless steel shackles offer greater corrosion resistance than standard alloy steel; this is due to the compounds used in stainless steel production. Chromium and nickel appear in specific quantities and also often contain molybdenum. It is the amount of chromium which chromium oxide layers which gives it the extra protection to prevent rusting and corrosion.

These compounds create very good corrosion resistant properties, especially in briny conditions. This makes stainless steel shackles perfect for use in marine applications, though they are also commonly used in water treatment plants, oil & gas works, chemical industries and food processing plants.

It is always advisable to use stainless steel shackles with other stainless steel fittings due to the fact that contact with galvanised steel can accelerate the corrosion rate.

Please note that some stainless steel shackles are not suitable for use in lifting and load bearing applications, this type of stainless steel shackle will not be stamped with a safe working load because they have not been load tested. If you are need to use a stainless steel shackle for any type of lifting operation or any other task which will be load bearing then you must ensure that the shackle is clearly stamped with a working load limit, these are usually the high tensile stainless steel shackles in our range.

Stainless Shackle Load limits

Our stainless steel shackles for lifting purposes include high tensile dee type with screw pin in WLL up to 18 tonne; high tensile bow type with screw pin in WLL up to 9 tonne; Dee type with safety bolt in SWL up to 5000kg & bow type with safety bolt in WLL up to 4500kg. All stainless shackles for lifting have a good safety factor with maximum breaking load equal to 6 times the working load limit.

Our range of stainless steel shackles that are not suitable for lifting purposes include dee type, bow type, wide, long and twisted types  all with screw pins, in a wide range of working load limits up to 12 tonne depending on type chosen.
